Create Your Own Spa Experience at Home

Sometimes, doesn't it seem like there aren't enough hours in the day to get all your work done?  You work all day on a project and then when it's time to leave the office and go home, you just can't help but think of all the things you didn't get to that day. Then before you know it, the next day is already here and it seems like a never-ending cycle of things to do that don't get done.  This can leave you feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and physically drained.  While life's demands are unavoidable, it doesn't mean that you have to be stressed all the time.  It's time to give yourself a break and take some time to relax.

While a visit to the spa is one of the best ways to rejuvenate your mind and body, you can also create your own spa experience right in your own home!  Start by getting the kids out of the house, playing some peaceful music, and lighting a few candles.  Aveda has an extremely delightful Caribbean TherapyTM Soy Wax Candle that's perfect for creating an island sanctuary at home.  While the candle subtly flickers its flame, clear your mind.  Let your worries go.  Be present in the moment.

Now it's time to draw a nice, warm bath and hop in the tub.  For a relaxing, long-lasting bubble bath, add some of Aveda's Calming Body Cleanser. This cleanser works to purify and condition your body with a calming blend of aloe vera and witch hazel extracts.   Infused with aromas like rose, vanilla and lavender, this bubble bath will leave skin feeling soft and resilient, while helping mind and body to unwind.   Don't rush, enjoy yourself.

In addition to bubbles, adding some bath salts to the tub helps cleanse and detoxify your body.  Try Aveda's Soothing Aqua Therapy, a mineral-rich Dead Sea salt that exfoliates and rehydrates skin.  Mineral-rich Dead Sea salts were prized for centuries for their ability to restore, refresh and rehydrate dry, stressed skin. After soaking in a bath with Dead Sea bath salts for a couple minutes you will feel your skin becoming softer and smoother, while your stress slips away.

When you're ready to get out of the tub, don't dry yourself off completely.  To lock in moisture and keep skin feeling refreshed, leave your skin slightly damp, before applying a lotion.  Restore suppleness to stressed, dry skin with Aveda's Replenishing Body Moisturizer.  With a moisture-binding blend of vitamins and an invigorating aroma, this moisturizer transforms even the roughest, toughest areas into silky-smooth skin.

Now before the kids get home, cherish your last few moments of peace and solitude. Enjoy a few deep breaths and nurture your inner being.

Put Your Best Face Forward

As summer starts to end and tans begin to fade, you may notice that your skin is looking dull and dry. You may also see signs of sun damage like wrinkles, brown spots, freckles, a blotchy or an uneven complexion.  The best thing you can do to protect your skin from future sun damage is to cover up and use sunscreen liberally, but if the damage has already been done, it's time to check out Aveda's EnbrightenmentTM collection. This collection has been clinically proven to improve skin's clarity by 52% and diminish the appearance of dark spots by 34% within 8 weeks.

To revive your sexy summer skin, begin your daily routine with the EnbrightenmentTM Brightening Cleaner.  With this cleanser, a little goes a long way.  Derived from coconut and enriched with extracts of rosemary and aloe, this facial cleanser gently lifts away impurities and dull surface cells to improve overall skin clarity.  With aromatic hints of lavender, sustainably sourced sandalwood, organic rose geranium and organic rosemary essential oils, this cleanser also helps soothe and calm the skin, leaving it glowing and noticeably brighter.

Quench your skin's thirst by misting your face with Aveda's EnbrightenmentTM Brightening Treatment Toner.  Enhanced with glucosamine and salicylic acid, this toner helps increase cell turnover, leaving you with more radiant skin.  In addition, this toner is 100% derived from mulberry root, grape extracts, and a vitamin C derivative that not only moisturizes, it reduces the appearance of discoloration and dark spots for a more even skin tone.

To seal in more hydration, apply a moisturizer while your skin is still damp from the toner.   Aveda's EnbrightenmentTM Brightening Correcting Crème will not only intensely moisturize skin with organic shea butter, but it will help strengthen your skin's moisture barrier with ceramide 3.  In addition, this moisturizer will help protect against sun damage with SPF 15 and treat damage already done by minimizing the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

While using a cleanser will remove surface dirt and impurities, a good facial masque will eliminate impurities from beneath the top layers of skin.  Once every week or couple of weeks, use a facial masque like Aveda's EnbrightenmentTM Brightening Intensive Massage Masque to enhance your skin care regimen.  With vitamins C and E, this 8-minute massage-in masque helps improve skin's tone, making it noticeably softer and more radiant.  Follow up with a toner and moisturizer, and you're good to go.

It's hard to stay confident when you're suffering from dry, sun damaged skin.  Your face is the first thing people see and it's a big part of your identity.  The last thing you want is for people to notice those pesky brown spots, red blotches, or dry flakes.  Put those worries behind you, and put your best face forward with Aveda's EnbrightenmentTM collection.

Summer Glow and Fresh Look

As Summer is winding down we can continue to
Look and feel great first of all by staying hydrated, drinking plenty of water, for a cool taste add lemons or cucumbers to your water.
To avoid that heavy creasing and smudging apply a face or eye primer to help minimize the creasing and prolong your makeup and shadow. Jane Iredale makes an oil control primer with a SPF 15 that works great.
Try using pencil eyeliners and also try them in different colors besides black like blue, green and turquoise this summer. If you are going to be out in the water be sure to use a water proof mascara, just remember you will need an oil base eye make up remover. If you fine you don't have one a quick fix is use a little olive oil to gently remove the water proof mascara.

For your foundation, using a lighter tinted make up or a tinted moisturizer.
If you have a foundation you already use and it is a great shade for you mix your 1 part foundation to 2 parts moisturizer for your very own custom tinted moisturizer. There are several options to get that sun kissed glow. Bronzer's give a quick healthy glow. You can use a bronzer powder by applying with a big powder brush, emphasize the higher points of the face. Apply to the top of the forehead, cheeks top of nose , basically your T zone area where the sun would naturally bronze you.
If you are needing to deepen your foundation you can add a little bronzer to your foundation.

Lip gloss go for the high shine in a subtle neutral in peach or a pale flirty pink.
For your cheeks use the same tone or shade as your lips a peach or baby pink.

Self tanners work great to give your body an all over tan. Be sure to exfoliate prior to applying a self tanner for an even smooth application. Safe tan, a self tanner product is great. It’s worth getting it professionally done the first time then you can touch up at home or purchase it and apply yourself with a light sponge.

Be sure to keep your hair protected while outdoors by wearing a hat when at all possible.
Apply a conditioning mask to the hair while playing outdoors. Aveda offers a hair care line that makes it easy to protect your hair while in the outdoors and a shampoo to get that chlorine out if you are in the pool excessively.
Apply your sunscreen every day prior to going outside using a full spectrum UVA, UVB sunscreen for maximum protection. Wear a hat and cover up if you are going to be out for prolonged periods in the outdoors.
